Program Information
What is the Wyoming County BRE&D Program?
Every community must realize the importance of its existing businesses and their success as a key component of economic development strategies. The Wyoming County Business Retention, Expansion & Development program (BRE&D) is a key element of staying in contact with existing business, determining their needs, and connecting them with the necessary resources to help them stay in business and prosper.
While estimates vary due to location and economic makeup, studies show that forty to eighty percent of new jobs are created by existing businesses. Rather than focusing solely on new startups or convincing firms to relocate, keeping existing firms is often an easier strategy to implement. By recognizing the value of existing businesses in Wyoming County, we will work to create an environment that is more conducive to improving the conditions for local businesses.
The Wyoming County BRE&D program is also working to develop the existing creative assets that are available. Although not directly addressed in this document or the survey, the BRE&D committee is documenting local artisans in Wyoming County and the resources that can assist them. Through facilitating the development of artisans and other creative entrepreneurs, Wyoming County hopes to lead the advancement of a multi-county artisan trail in southern West Virginia that will act as a catalyst for local tourism development.
